Question Description:

I will resubmit my manuscript after major revisions. Since the reviewer suggested correcting all the grammatical mistakes, I’m going to get it done by an English editing service after making the content-level revisions. In that case, should I mention in the cover letter that the manuscript is copyedited by a professional copyeditor? I’m also planning to it in the response to reviewers document.

Answer

Journals prefer transparency and complete disclosure. It is fine to use the services of an editing company, but it is best to disclose this in the cover letter. You should also acknowledge the services of the copyeditor in the acknowledgments section. Even though it is a paid service, this is the only way for you to inform your readers that you have used such a service. Additionally, most journals would expect you to do this. You should also mention this in your response to the reviewer comments about grammatical errors.
